PARTYING AT EITS CAFE

As we’ve discussed before, my love for my country is spurred on by it’s extremely diverse nature, for even though I have left my beloved Montego Bay with its laid-back take on city life, I am still able to find little nooks in and around Kingston that embrace this rural feel. One such place is the EITS (Europe in the summer) Café in the Blue Mountains. Perched right on the side of 17 Mile Post in New Castle, this rustic restaurant has embraced the raw nature of the beautiful Jamaican mountains and constructed an unobtrusive guesthouse and restaurant with all natural material. As you sit beneath the thatch canopy overlooking the valley, your heart my stop for just a minute as you breathe in the fresh mountain air and searing beauty. If you are so inclined and reject the idea of taking the drive back down the mountain into the traffic of town, take a few steps down to where the temperature falls a Fahrenheit or two and enter one of the cozy guest rooms.

I tell you, from the first moment I stepped past that open air kitchen to the beat of the local Rastafarian band, I was hooked. If not for the forty-minute drive, I think I would actually become one of the fixed features of the restaurant. Instead, I have satisfied myself with bribing my husband to take me on Mothers’ Day and Birthdays, and have even slipped in a few Fathers’ Days and his own birthdays.
The restaurant is family owned and operated, and the smiling face of Robyn Fox and her father, Michael are always a welcoming sight at the entrance. Supplying Kingstonians with its freshly grown ‘Food Basket’ produce, the meals at EITS are based on the simple fact that the food is always fresh and just downright fantastic.

My husband and I have managed to lure our friends up the mountain on several occasions for birthday parties, in which we have been granted specifically designed buffets based on the fresh supplies available and excellent wines. We always choose to begin before dusk so that we can appreciate the magnificent view before the just as beautiful dusk falls. If you know my friends, you know that the night could not end without an impromptu karaoke or dancing session, but thankfully the warm and laid-back vibe of the restaurant allows for a guests to just let their hair down and have a great time.
