FENSPIRATION | BEING HAPPY WITH YOURSELF

We live in a time where we’re either obsessed with being famous or obsessed with the most famous. It goes hand in hand with being liked, accepted and desired. That misplaced correlation between likability and acceptance and fame is what fuels things like social media, sells magazines and heck; it even puts money in my pockets!
We live in a time where being young, beautiful and thin are job requirements for industries outside of modelling. Where your bust size means more to employers than your degree in business management. Where your straight hair and light skin is all the difference between being seated first or last at dining establishments. I’ve seen it first hand in a few places I’ve been blessed to have visited and that’s why this post is so important. Again, many of us –including myself- play beneficiaries to these unjust judgements and mode of operation. In the same breath I (like most women and people in general) also fall victim to this same system. The resolve? This affects many things, but today I’m thinking of the growing girls and children in our society who are becoming men and women in a world most fragile.
Girls, whether you are Jamaican, Puerto Rican, American or other; YOU ARE BEAUTIFUL and your being alive means something to someone somewhere. Being happy with yourself is all about consent and consequence. Happiness is in many ways a choice, a series of choices and the end consequences – being happy. Start small, today for instance I slept for an extra 20minutes than usual and that made me a little bit happier. I also recently lightened my hair, also made me happy. Being happy with yourself isn’t hard you just have to start doing more of what you like and what you want to do.
Tell me in the comments below what makes you happy?
