WORK IT OUT | FOR SCHWAPPERS OVER 40

There are so many challenges for the over-40 year olds when it comes to keeping fit. For me, these are the main hurdles –

· *I love to eat and I love to drink wine (lots of it).

· *I’m married to a man who loves to eat and drink wine.

· *I have children who love to eat.

· *I have friends who love to eat and drink wine.

· *My metabolic rate has slowed down to that of a sloth’s.

· *My hips have a mind of their own and refuse to be confined to miniscule clothing sizes.

· * Chik-V has stuck burning hot rods into every one of my joints.

But alas, there are also positives for me and my exercise regime. They are –

· *Nadine

Yes, I have a personal trainer, and she is my saving grace. I have found that over the last twelve years of working under Nadine, she has come to know my strengths and weaknesses, and during that time she has made my strengths even stronger, and my weaknesses into strengths. The great thing is, she listens to my body, even when she seems like she’s not (there are times as she’s stood over my whining body that I’m sure if she could have grabbed a whip she would have). But she has gently worked me through the Chik-V trauma, and even now as I have lingering pains she modifies each exercise to work through these challenges.

Best part – working out is never boring. Nadine is constantly changing up the routines, ‘surprising’ my different muscles into action and keeping me at my optimum fitness level.
