MACHU EZRA INDIE PRINCE?

TODAY IN MUSIC: MACHU EZRA'S NEW MUSIC VIDEO FOR HIS SINGLE "MAKE YOU WEAK", RSTP REVIEwS

Machu Ezra

New musicians/artists/djs or whatever the heck they're calling themselves nowadays are a dime a dozen in Jamaica. Knowing that, I’ve stayed away from music reviews and general promotion. I love me my reggae but I can count on one hand the records I listen to religiously, often times I just opt to put Althea and Donna on repeat. But in slew of the island’s heavy push towards dancehall music or the lack thereof and now having retained the lyrics to Tessanne Chin’s entire album, I went in search of some new sounds and found… MACHU EZRA.

Ezra is the young, visually appealing not-so new artist still trying for national recognition and appreciation for his somber, R&B ballads with mixed reggae influences. Sonically, Machu resembles an uptown version of an old school hybrid reggae artist. He’s best described as the Jamaican answer to The Weeknd, and for me that’s a huge compliment.

On to “Make Me Weak”; lyrically it’s pretty simple as his music has become known for. Musically, the track sounds a little unfinished but nonetheless ‘listen-to-able’. His falsetto? Gorgeous, but I’m not sure if I take him seriously as a vocalist yet. In the coming year and with the rolling out of our “Cordless: Live Sessions” (youtube series) - highlighting new young talent in poetry, music and acting, Machu Ezra is etched on our list of people to feature. Until then, take a look at the BVD ONE produced video and let me know what you think!
