LAURIE IN LONDON!

WHILE WE'RE ENJOYING THE SUBTLE CHRISTMAS BREEZE IN THE CARIBS, LAURIE IS IN LONDON!

As the Miss World 2014 Pageant progresses, our golden girl is looking good. Hear what she had to tell Rashade St Patrick between pre-lims.

22 Year old Laurie-Ann Chin is currently in London representing Jamaica in the Miss World pageant. She is, at this moment, in the top 25 and her chances are looking very good, GO TEAM JAMAICA! I caught up with her between her busy schedule on European time to ask her a few questions to share with you guys.

Kingston Belle: Which girls have you bonded in your short time in London so far? Laurie-Ann Chin: Fortunately my roommate, Guyana and I get along quite well and have created a great bond thus far but I have many new friends from different regions honestly. I can be often found around Panama and Guatemala, most likely teaching each other our native languages and sharing jokes. Other times Hungary and Bahamas.

KB: What's the most exciting thing you've done so far? LC: We're still in our early days and I'm sure there is way more exciting days ahead but the only thing I can say has beat our bus tour around London or night out for Phantom of the Opera is... Lol! My sports competition! I surprised myself by making it amongst the 32 of us into the finals and further surprised myself in the long jump category. Finishing 5th overall with a 3.56m score. That was fun! My long legs are good for something!

KB: What's one surprising thing about London and or the MW competition that you've found?

LC: I shouldn't say this surprised me but the love I've seen that people have for Jamaica internationally has floored me! I am beyond proud to wear my badge everyday representing! One glance at it and immediately people want to spark a conversation with me to share that their great grand uncle's cousin's daughter went to Ocho Rios once. Too many countries have shared with me how popular dancehall and reggae is at home and that they love it. They love the accent I can't hear and beg me to speak patois constantly. In my response to your first question where I said "Jamaica", that was on purpose. I left my birth name at the door as I arrived, I am "Jamaica", I am called nothing else and I love it! It's a big deal that I am one girl, half way across the world representing approximately 3 million strong and vibrant people. I am the entire island here. I am "Jamaica" couldn't be prouder!
